Karl worked with Studio Egret West in east London from 2013 - 2017. During this time the studio went through a period of rapid expansion, quadrupling in size from 17 up to 65 members. Due to this expansion, the studio outgrew our space in Compton Courtyard and needed to relocate to larger premises. Late 2014 a large ground floor showroom space was selected at 3 Brewhouse Yard in a building designed by Erick van Egeraat. Karl was chosen to design and project manage the new studio fit-out.

Karl’s role involved designing extensive built-in custom birch ply furniture including two custom freestanding reception desks, 48 computer workstations with integrated storage, a large commercial kitchen with stainless steel countertop, canteen and event space including integrated beer taps and full-size beer keg system, a remote control cinema projector screen, a modelmaking workshop with full air extract, laser cutting and 3d printing, work table and material stores; cloak room, display cabinets, bookshelves, material sample storage room and a wall-hung bike store. A smart Dali lighting system was also specified and programmed with multiple ambient light settings.

Karl produced general arrangement layouts, specifications, sourced products and materials, produced detailed shop drawings for all of the custom furniture, liaised with the furniture maker team and oversaw the fabrication and installation work to completion. SEW moved into the new space in February 2015 and remain there today, producing great work and hosting great parties.
