Mid-rise

/ mid-ˌrīz /

Adjective. midrise (architecture, of a building) Neither high-rise nor low-rise; typically consisting of four to ten stories. Being approximately 4 to 10 stories high.

Since graduating from the Mack in 2011, Architect Karl Shane Dískín has self-initiated a variety of property development projects in tandem with his architectural career in London, Glasgow, Melbourne and Cork, where he worked with practices including Scott Tallon Walker, Studio Egret West, John McAslan + Partners, Metropolitan Workshop, and Grimshaw Architects.

MiDRISE is a shop window based upon Karl’s interest in uniting these twin career paths under a single banner, doing it differently with urbanism-led property development;

  • We develop projects which stimulate our interests in architecture, built heritage and sustainable urban development of our towns and cities.

  • As the name suggests, we champion mid-rise, mixed-use, urban residential developments in particular, for their optimum balance of livability, sustainability and viability..

  • We favour regenerating brownfield sites, infill gap sites, vacant properties, and otherwise neglected and forgotten corners of the urban environment as the optimum sites for our project work.

  • Our guiding principle includes pursuing the triple bottom line theory often referred to as ‘the three P’s’: people, planet, and prosperity.

We’re always looking for the next project. Get in touch if you have an interesting potential plot or a building that needs a rethink. We’re also happy to discuss potential collaborations and joint ventures.
